WINNER BEST NEW MUSICAL – BROADWAY WORLD

Welcome to Camp Goody Goody, upstate New York’s summer retreat for the children of the elite, run by fading socialite Madame Tres Faux. She is thrust into emergency mode when, just a day after opening, the forbidden camp across the lake mysteriously burns down. Madame offers to take in the hooligans from this less-than-upscale establishment as a goodwill gesture which leads to plenty of comedic antics, unexpected tensions, and surprising twists. Camp, A New Musical, is a wonderfully entertaining, fun, fast-paced musical comedy the whole family will enjoy.

Camp, A New Musical – transports you upstate to New York’s Camp Goody Goody, a summer retreat for children of the elite, run by fading socialite Madame Tres Faux. The curtain rises on opening day as Madame and the Counselors welcome a fresh crop of eager campers, each with a designer suitcase full of self-absorbing issues. There’s Annie, the Broadway wannabe, who is mortified to find she is not at the theatre camp down the road; Olive, the social media maven, who suffers panic attacks when she discovers there is no Wi-Fi for the duration of the summer; Dexter and Baxter, two science geeks, who try and help Olive, although their experiments don’t always go exactly as planned. Then there are the “It” girls—Fluffy, Muffy, and Fawn—a trio of teenagers who have been coming to Camp Goody Goody for years, and whose interests are their looks, designer clothes, and their ability to intimidate everyone else. The only one immune to their condescending attitude is 10-year-old Chas, a regular little country club Casanova, who is smitten by the girls. Enter Jane, who feels like a fish out of water since her parents won the lottery and shipped her off to boarding school and now to camp, forcing her to be someone she’s not.

It doesn’t take Jane and Bill long to realize they are both square pegs that don’t fit in at either camp, so the two decide to join forces and unite the kids from both camps, much to the chagrin of Madame Tres Faux.

This all leads to fast-paced musical fun with plenty of comedic antics, unexpected tensions, and surprising twists, with a feel-good ending you will not soon forget. ‘Camp’ is a wonderfully entertaining musical the whole family will enjoy.

Things are going swimmingly when suddenly, during the evening’s jamboree hoedown with the Counselors, smoke, and flames are seen billowing from the much-maligned forbidden camp across the lake, which ultimately burns to the ground. Madame is thrust into emergency mode and offers to take in the displaced ‘hooligan’ campers from this less-than-upscale establishment as a goodwill gesture, forcing the Goody Goody’s to share their cabins with the likes of Crusher, Spike, Sticks, Stones, and Bones and Bill.
